Three Tips To Dominate Your Competition in Your Internet Lawyer Marketing Efforts

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Make no mistake, the web is better than the old-school ads that law firms used to use like yellow books, billboards & even TV in some areas. The web is by far the best place for perceptive Lawyer Marketing experts to get the best cases over other attorneys in their local geography. Good news - if you haven’t started marketing your firm on the web yet, you haven’t lost too much ground, and can still make money. Here are strong suggestions to capitalize on internet search:

1. Optimize Now. Start to optimize your website. You are missing out on people looking specifically for you every month. There are honestly thousands of searches every month by someone looking for a Divorce Lawyer (or what you practice) in Salt Lake City (or where your office is). Bottom line, you need to be found on Major search engines like Google, ideally the first page. That is what optimization does for you. If done well, optimization will get you on the first page for the most-searched terms potential clients are using to find an attorney.

2. Don’t Be Such A Control Freak - Hire a Pro - Yes, there are many tweaks you may already know how to do, but there is only so much changing of your meta tags, improving your headings, bolding your text and other simple SEO techniques you can do yourself. Why do people hire you? Because you’re an expert. Whatever money you spend on a good SEO Consultant for Law Firms is money well spent. But do your research. Don’t just hire someone who is good at getting florist sites on Google. Make sure they have experience in optimizing lawyer sites, as law firm sites are incredibly competitive and difficult to get on page one.

3. Invest in A Quality Website - Think like an Attorney Marketing Professional. Don’t get a low-quality website here. You are fighting with other firms who know the value of getting clients from the internet. Think of your site as a something to bring you clients. The true purpose of your lawyer marketing is to get them to email or call you. And don’t just focus on the people who are looking for you on Google and don’t know who you are yet, but make sure you keep the people who do know who you are!

Check up on them too. Go To Google and search Lawyer Marketing, or Lawyer SEO. If their own website shows up for those highly-competitive lawyer marketing terms, then they should have the ability to get your web site ranked high too. Depending on your city and practice area, (some like Criminal are more competitive than others) you could expect to pay one to three thousand dollars a month or more for a qualified SEO professional. But if thousands of people are looking for your specialty, do you think you would get at least one to two clients a month? What would you make from those cases you want?

Lets say someone gets referred to you, where are they going to go to look YOU up? Absolutely! The web! So when they type your name into Bing, be certain that what they see is top quality. The last thing you want is for someone to be so unimpressed with your site that once they find you, they go back to Google and retain a different lawyer.

Do yourself a favor and take this advice. If you want to succeed at attorney marketing, use these tips and take advantage of the power of the internet. Good luck, share your ideas with us! I’m happy to share also!
