Typically, the unfortunate chore of reading reference guides can be just about bared when essential, but you'd hate it. You should use video and multimedia based materials if learning from books is not your thing. Research over recent years has constantly shown that getting into our studies physically, will more likely produce memories that are deeper and longer-lasting.

Modern training can now be done at home via interactive CD and DVD ROM's. Through instructor-led video classes you'll learn your subject by way of the demonstrations and explanations. You can then test yourself by practicing and interacting with the software. Each company you're contemplating should be able to show you some samples of the materials provided for study. You should hope for instructor-led videos and many interactive sections.

It's usually bad advice to go for purely on-line training. Connection quality and reliability varies hugely across most broadband providers, ensure that you have access to disc based courseware (On CD or DVD).

Many companies focus completely on the certification process, and completely miss what you actually need - which will always be getting the job or career you want. Always start with the end in mind - don't make the journey more important than where you want to get to. Students often train for a single year but end up performing the job-role for decades. Don't make the error of taking what may be a very 'interesting' program only to waste your life away with a job you don't like!

Get to grips with earning potential and the level of your ambition. This will influence which qualifications you'll need to attain and what industry will expect from you in return. Your likely to need help from someone who knows the commercial realities of the industry you think may suit you, and who can give you 'A typical day in the life of' synopsis of what you actually do on the job. All of these things are absolutely essential as you'll need to know if you're going down the right road.

Talk to almost any knowledgeable advisor and they'll entertain you with many awful tales of how students have been duped by salespeople. Stick to someone who quizzes you to discover the most appropriate thing for you - not for their paycheque! You must establish a starting-point that will suit you. With some real-world experience or some accreditation, you may find that your starting point is not the same as someone new to the industry. If you're a new trainee commencing IT study for the first time, you might like to start out slowly, starting with a user-skills course first. Usually this is packaged with any educational course.
